Water and sustainable irrigation.
The scarcity of water is a problem in dry regions that restricts their development. To resolve this problem, a coherent, modern and long-term approach must be applied to water management, using the very latest technological advances. This implies an ongoing effort on the part of society as a whole. It is, above all, a technical question, followed by an economic, social and finally a political matter. Irrigation, essential in such areas, has been strongly attacked in recent years as a major consumer of water. The efforts being made to improve irrigation installations and applications, in a bid to save water, should be recognised and continued in order to achieve sustainability and profitability in a highly competitive global context. The wide-scale use of recycled water is a very significant part of the overall solution that could help to resolve this problem.
